Frequently Asked Questions
What is Active Release Techniques (ART)?
How can I prepare for a session?
What should I expect during a session?
A session looks slightly different for everyone. In general this is NOT a full body relaxation massage. Before each session we map out our problem areas and then get to work. Because we are working on myofascial lines we look for the connections between these problem areas. Lots of communication is used to be as efficient as possible. There will likely be position shifts often and we may work seated.
What can I do after a session?
What should I wear for the session?
Loose, comfortable clothing such as workout gear is best. Tight, form fitting bottoms are very difficult to work through so basketball or jogging shorts work best. In order to work all problem areas, you may be asked to undress to your comfort level and draping will always be provided.
Is it ok to exercise after a session?
How often should I come?
If I get ROCK taped, how long can it stay on?
Do you ONLY work with Athletes?
No, I work with anyone that moves their body daily, is seeking to manage or alleviate pain, wants to move better, and/or enhance daily performance.
Can I get both ART and movement coaching in a single session?
That will vary person to person based on goals, needs and treatment strategy. Initial sessions are focused more on soft tissue manipulation (massage) which leads to a corrective strategy in movement if needed. However, if a movement program is desired or warranted immediately, we will meld the two services strategically based on your goals.
